Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

This Advent season started with being unsure if I was up for it this year. I wasn’t “in the spirit.” I didn’t feel like it was here.

Whether or not I was ready, the season came anyway. So we started our Advent traditions. Lighting the first candle of our wreath on the first Sunday and have continued at every evening meal since {forgetting to blow it out a few times so now it’s only an inch tall with two and a half weeks left to burn it}. My daughter opens the door on the Advent calendar to reveal the image of the day {no chocolates or treats}. We decorated our symbol of everlasting life and the light of Christ {also known as the Christmas tree and lights}. We placed the angel on top of the tree {not a Santa hat or bow or any other tacky holiday decoration that has nothing to do with Christ}.

But still I sat on the couch the first Sunday of Advent not ready for it. I just couldn’t shake the slump. It didn’t help that I was still having trouble with my conversion of heart and hadn’t been to confession yet. But there was just something else that I needed. God only knows what that could be, right? Right.
