Learning the Hail Mary

september-8-blessed-virgin-mary-birthdayAt my parish, children in CCD are taught the Sign of the Cross in kindergarten, the Lord’s Prayer in 1st grade, and then the Hail Mary and Act of Contrition in 2nd grade which is my group.  We started the year reviewing the Sign of the Cross and Lord’s Prayer.  When it came time to begin learning the Hail Mary, I wanted to make sure the students understood the origins of the Hail Mary.

So one day while perusing through Pinterest {again} I stumbled on the Hail Mary explained, providing the scriptures from which the Hail Mary comes.  I do not know where the Pin originated, but it is exactly what I wanted.  The image I found was very small and difficult to read, so I recreated it and converted to a pdf.  It’s attached below for personal use if desired.

You, Sin and the Christ

Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. (Psalm 51:7)

God is Present in the Disorder

God is present in the disorder that so often defines our days. In the clutter, his voice can still be heard. If we open our hearts to his word, he will speak.

All About Me!

Sunday is the big day.  The beginning of CCD for the 2014-2015 school year.  I have been searching for just the right All About Me poster that 24 second graders can complete in a matter of minutes.  It’s pretty easy to find the big posters, but that’s not exactly what I want.  Taking inspiration from various posters I’ve found, I created this short and sweet, 8-1/2″ x 11″, About Me poster for the first day activity.

The Holy Water Challenge!

MANY of us have seen or participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).  We have seen our friends and family dump ice cold water on their heads and challenge us to do the same all in the name of charity.

Well here is a new challenge for you.
